KO Performance
carries only the highest
quality brand names and products,
and in HID lighting, we've selected
Philips based Xenon Conversion
kits as our top tier product.
These kit's bulbs and ballasts
start as Philips D2 (or
D2S) bulbs and LVQ 212 ballasts
which are then rebased with custom
molded bases and then optically
aligned using lasers for OEM quality
fitment and performance in vehicles
originally unable to utilize HID
technology.
The rebased Philips bulbs
life expectancy is between 2,500
to 3,000 hours which is equivalent
to 5+ years of actual driving
time. In addition, these kits
come with a 1-year warranty on
ALL components.
All Xenon lighting upgrade kits
on the market are not of equal
quality. If the best quality HID
kit on the market is what you
are looking for, then look no
further as this kit is the standard
by which other HID conversion
kits are measured against - Philips
based bulbs and ballasts.
Philips HIDs and Xenon bulbs
are found as original equipment
in many BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz
vehicles. Why settle for anything
less than the German made, proven
Xenon components?
HID bulbs resulting light spectrum
and properties are measured according
to their operating temperatures
in degrees Kelvin (K). The color
of the light output is influenced
by the bulb type, viewing angle,
and light housing.
E36 M3, & 325, E46 M3, 325,
330, 328, etc. and many other
applications & make fitments
ie. Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Range
Rover, Motorcycles, etc. are available
as Philips based HIDs Xenon
Conversion kits from KO.
If the Xenon kit your are interested
in is not on our website yet,
just email or call us, as in virtually
every case we already offer it.
To determine what conversion kit
is right for you, you'll need
to figure out what type of stock
halogen bulbs you currently have.
Low beam headlight bulbs, high
beam headlight bulbs, and fog
light bulbs are typically all
different bulb fitments or "bases"
as they are called in the automotive
lighting industry. These kits
are sold (except for some cases
for motorcycle kits - call for
pricing on motorcycle kits) as
sets of pairs for low beams or
high beams including all necessary
parts to match both sides of the
car. Tips for determining which
bulb type you have and thus need
as the base for your HID conversion
kit are located at the bottom
of this web page.

Each Philips
based HID system includes all the
parts necessary for installation
in your vehicle:
- Philips based bulbs -
2 HID bulbs
- Philips / Hella ballasts
- 2 HID ballasts
- 2 Premium wiring harnesses with
relays
- High quality connectors
- Aluminum mounting plates and
hardware
- Industrial strength Velcro for
'easy removal' mounting option
- Comprehensive, detailed, easy
to follow, illustrated instructions
- True Plug and Play Kit
- 1 year warranty on ALL components
In addition, this
kit features a wiring harness which
draws power directly from the battery,
not the factory headlight wiring
to ensure safety.
The Philips based Xenon bulbs
in these kits feature a custom molded
base for a perfect bulb placement
in the light housing. In addition,
these bulbs are designed to outlast
the life of your vehicle.
The Hella / Philips ballasts
feature a compact design that fits
easily in the engine bay making
installation a simple procedure
even for the novice installer.
Every Philips based HID system
is constructed exclusively with
industry leading Philips based
bulbs and Hella / Philips
ballasts and are available in 3000K,
4100k, 5000K, and 6000k Ultinon
xenon bulb types.
4100K in E46 BMW |
6000K in E46 BMW |
The 4,100K bulb is the brightest
and emits a bright white light.
The 6,000K Ultinon bulb emits
a slightly more purple light,
however generates less actual
visible light energy. As a general
rule the 4100K HID bulb produces
a clean white light where the
Ultinon bulb produces a
more purple / white light.
HID Xenon Technology
and benefits vs. Halogen:
- Up to 3X the light output
- Improved down-road illumination
- Lower power consumption
- up to 10X Longer life
HID stands for High
Intensity Discharge and refers to
lighting technology that relies
on an electrical charge to ignite
Xenon gas contained in a sealed
bulb. HID lighting provides about
three times the light output of
standard halogen headlights while
using less energy.
Halogen Road Illumination |
Xenon HIDs Road Illumination |
High Intensity Discharge (HID)
is the latest technology in automotive
lighting. Instead of using a filament
like in a standard the light bulb,
the bulb is filled with xenon
gas and other elements. By utilizing
the excited gas electro-photo
discharge principle, light is
emitted, with a certain combination
of spectral components (think
rainbow), when the gas is excited
(heated / burned / ignited) between
two electrodes in a small capsule
filled with a mixture of xenon
gas and halide salts. When high
voltage is applied, the gas is
ignited and as the individual
atoms cool down in energy, they
radiate light according to their
atomic properties and the amount
of energy applied to them (voltage,
and power).
Xenon lamps operate at a much
higher temperature than halogen
bulbs and generally radiate light
spectrum according to their Kelvin
(K) temperature rating. The higher
the temperature of operation or
excitation of the gases, the more
toward the ultra-violet side of
the spectrum the light emitted
will be, whereas the opposite
is also true. The lower the operating
or excitation temperature, the
more toward the infra-red side
of the spectrum the light output
will be.
Color example:
Stock halogen headlight on a US
model E36 BMW M3 vs. 4100K HIDs.
Note the 'yellow' light output
compared to the HID system installed
on the same vehicle below. The
halogens operate at a much lower
temperature than the HIDs and
thus are more towards the "red"
side of the spectrum, whereas
the HIDs are more white / blue-ish
and thus are more towards the
"violet" side of the
spectrum.

Why this kit?:
- All components start their lives
as Philips bulbs and ballasts.
The bulbs are then rebased for
custom applications.
- 1-year warranty on ALL components
including bulbs. Other companies
only offer no warranties, or up
to 6 months.
- State of the art rebase technology
ensures that the focal point is
100% correct after rebasing.
- Two Relay harnesses - Two individual
relay harnesses means that each
light system on both driver and
passenger sides is isolated from
the other. This enables easier
diagnoses and problem resolution
for any installation or warranty
issues. This is impossible with
any system with a single relay
setup.
Common Questions:
How hard is it to install a HID
conversion kit?
This kit is a true "plug-and-play"
kit with all mating connectors which
can only be connected one way, and
one way only, and this eliminates
the possibility of installation error.
A typical installation takes about
30 minutes to an hour and half depending
on your mechanical/electrical skills.
If you need more info on how determining
if you can do this install yourself
or not, you can download a detailed
instruction manual here.
Is this a "Philips kit"?
There is no such thing as an HID conversion
kit directly from Philips since
Philips only makes HID bulbs
and ballasts for OEM HID applications.
All conversion kits that utilize Philips
components have to go through rebased
manufacturers to rebase the bulbs
from the HID base to one of the halogen
bases (H1, H4, H7, 9006 and etc.)
so that they will be able to retrofit
into the halogen housings. The rebased
manufacturers also put the rest of
the conversion kit together.
This high quality kit consists of
rebased and modified Philips
components.
Will this kit fit my application
and do I need to make any modification
to make it fit?
As long as you order the correct bulb
base for your car, our xenon HID conversion
kit will fit your halogen light housing
perfectly with no fitment issues,
and no modifications required.
How do I know what bulb base I
should order?
This information can easily be found
in your owner's manual or on the markings
found on the current halogen bulbs
you are using. You can also use this
guide from Osram Sylvania as a
